Hodel was born in 1949, to a teenaged daughter of a prominent Caucasian family in California. Shortly after her birth, she was given away to a young black woman who worked in a Nevadan casino.

She grew up believing she was mixed race, enduring prejudice everywhere she went, before seeking out her birth mother and discovering her disturbing true identity, which is tied closely to that of suspected Black Dahlia killer Dr. George Hodel.

Chris Pine plays Jay Singletary, with Leland Orser joining the project as Peter Sullivan, a Night Managing Editor for the Los Angeles Times.

One Day She’ll Darken is written by Sam Sheridan, and set to premiere on TNT in 2018.
