Funcom, the company behind games such as Age of Conan, Anarchy Online and most recently, The Secret World, has announced that it is developing a massively multiplayer online game based on the Lego Minifigures franchise.

Lego Minifigures are sets of different Lego characters including cheerleaders, cavemen, cowboys, zombies and Vikings. Seven series of Minifigures have been released so far. The Lego Minifigures website receives millions of unique users per month and already features a great deal of interactive content including games and quizzes. Funcom’s planned MMO will be the next step for the Minifigures franchise.

According to Funcom’s press release, the MMO will “focus on maximum accessibility” and aim to capture some of the market for “family-friendly online experiences.”

Lego is no stranger to video games. We love the Lego Harry Potter, Star Wars and Indiana Jones games, and we can’t wait for Lego Lord of the Rings. Funcom is clearly aiming for a different, younger market with this MMO, but we’re definitely interested to see how this one turns out.

Do you think a Lego Minifigures MMO would be successful?
