TV Guide’s Comic-Con issue shares some tantalizing teases about the characters of and buildup to the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow.

Though the article reiterates some of what we already knew about the upcoming Arrow/Flash crossover, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim have some new tidbits that have us even more excited.

The characters

The producers tease an exciting dynamic between the various heroes and villains that will be teaming up to take on immortal dictator Vandal Savage. “Hawkgirl has all manner of issues because of her past lives,” Guggenheim teases.

“White Canary will be dealing with the ramifications of her resurrection” via the Lazarus Pit, “and Dr. Stein has his own problems to deal with. We find out that he used to be Ray Palmer’s professor…and they kind of hate each other.”

The setup

Furthermore, with Legends premiering at mid-season on The CW, “[t]he fall season is very much going to be a buildup to this,” Berlanti says. An Arrow/Flash crossover later this year will set up Legends.

We’re also learning that Legends is being “[e]nvisioned as a 13-part anthology” with each season “feel[ing] like its own movie,” according to Guggenheim. The first season, then, will focus on the team taking on Savage.

The universe

It’s also worth noting that a character’s presence on Legends will not prevent them from appearing on Arrow or The Flash. “[E]ach show will stand on its own,” Berlanti promises. However, following more than one at once will yield pleasant surprises for viewers.

“What’s great about having so many different shows is that we have so much real estate, people can pop up in other places,” Kreisberg says. “You’re going to see some surprising faces on all of the shows…an not just the main casts. Secondary characters, some of whom you have have thought you’d never see again.”
