With the Legends of Tomorrow season 4 premiere just a few weeks away, we have five burning questions we need answered.

At the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 3, the Legends took on the time demon Mallus. Damien Darhk sacrificed himelf to save Nora from Mallus, and the Legends used the Zambesi totems to combine into a giant Beebo in the most Legends thing to ever happen. However, the Legends opened Mallus’s prison to defeat him, and Constantine revealed in the final moments of the season that they had let out far more than just Mallus.

Oops?

The season 4 synopsis reads:

After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends are ready to ease off the gas. Sara (Caity Lotz) and her team join Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) and the Time Bureau to help clean up the last few remaining anachronisms. The job seems straightforward enough until Constantine (Matt Ryan) arrives to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with “Fugitives” – magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. As the Time Bureau is distrustful of and ill-equipped to deal with magic, the Legends must team up with everyone’s favorite demonologist to set history back on track.

With that in mind, we have five burning questions we need answered in season 4:

How will Constantine fit as a series regular?

After appearing in several episodes in season 3, Constantine will be a series regular in season 4. He fit in beautifully with the Legends, developing a particular bond with Sara. But Constantine, up until this point, has been more of a loner who gets reluctantly pulled into the team dynamics.

“The relationship between John and Sara Lance… playing that dynamic in episode 3×10, when I first came on board, it was like, ‘Oh my God, this really works!'” actor Matt Ryan says.

“There’s the way he interacts with Mick — they’re both con artists and Mick can provide John with a light [to smoke], but other than that, are they going to get on? I don’t know,” he adds.

“And there’s his relationship with Ray, who’s the scientist, and John’s magic… so I’m looking forward to exploring all of those.”

So, what kind of dynamics can we expect in the upcoming season? Will he have a bunk on the Waverider with two Legends exiting? Or will he pop in and out to help the Legends with the Fugitives?

Who is Maisie Richardson-Sellers’s new character, Charlie?

With Amaya returning to Zambesi in 1942 at the end of season 3, it seemed that Richardson-Sellers might be completing her run on Legends. However, that is not the case. She will be playing a new character named Charlie.

“She is a magical fugitive,” Richardson-Sellers previews. “She’s a bit of a rebel trickster, a bit of an anarchist, this punk rock kid. The Legends stumble upon her and [have to] decide whether she is a friend or a foe.

“Her journey throughout this season is, can she join, or will she actually join but undermine and continue to have her naughty ways?”

So, what will Charlie’s presence mean for the team — especially Nate, who was heartbroken to leave Amaya in the past and is now running into another person who looks like her?

How will Sara and Ava’s relationship develop?

Though they started season 3 antagonistically, Sara and Ava became close and started dating. They had some ups and downs, including a brief break-up and the reveal that Ava is a clone from the future, before confessing their love for each other.

“Her character arc was a bit of a slow burn this [third] season, and yet each episode revealed a new facet of her character,” executive producer Phil Klemmer says of Ava.

“She’s been alternately funny, poignant, engaging, endearing, and kick-ass this season — and yet I know for a fact that we haven’t hit all of [Jes Macallan’s] hidden gears as an actor.”

So, with Sara coming off the loss of her father and Ava still dealing with the knowledge of who she is, how will the dynamic between these two women evolve?

Will Ray and Nora get closer?

Yet another new regular for season 4 is Nora Darhk, played by Brandon Routh’s real-life spouse Courtney Ford. In season 3, we saw Nora, in the wake of her father’s death at Oliver Queen’s hands, develop into the vessel for Mallus. However, she also became closer with Ray and realized, by the end, that she had made a mistake in helping revive Mallus.

Damien sacrificed himself to protect Nora, leaving her alone. She was arrested by the Time Bureau, but Ray gave her her father’s time stone, providing the opportunity to escape.

So, can we expect Ray and Nora to grow closer, in a nod to their real-life marriage? Will Nora aid the Legends or continue as an antagonist?

What will the introduction of Nate’s father mean for Nate?

In season 2, we met Nate’s grandfather, Commander Steel, during his time with the Justice Society of America. He eventually sacrificed himself to save the Legends and protect his piece of the Spear of Destiny. Nate was heartbroken to lose his grandfather but he took up his grandfather’s legacy by using his abilities to become Steel.

In season 4, we will be meeting Nate’s estranged father, Hank Heywood, played by Tom Wilson. With a lifetime in the military and Dept. of Defense, Hank is part of a long line of Heywoods to serve the country. Charming and charismatic, he’s left big shoes for Nate to fill — and it doesn’t help that Nate can’t tell him he’s secretly a Legend!

So, how will the introduction of Nate’s father affect Nate and his work with the Legends? Will the two reconcile or will they remain antagonistic? And how will Nate deal with getting to know his grandfather when his father never got to?

Legends of Tomorrow season 4 premieres Monday, Oct. 22 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
