The CW’s highly anticipated Flash/Arrow spinoff, Legends of Tomorrow isn’t set to premiere on the network until this Fall. But if you’re itching to find out more about the series, then you’ll definitely want to take a look at what showrunner Phil Klemmer and actress Caity Lotz teased during their appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

While the show’s main premise seems to be as simple as a rag tag bunch of super humans coming together to save the world before it’s too far gone, showrunner Phil Klemmer says it’s a bit more complicated than that.

“Over the course of the season, we’ll realize a couple of things: one, is that Rip’s message is slightly more mixed and nuanced,” explained Klemmer. “It’s not as simple a mission, and once we get into the past and we try to do something which seems simple, the problem is that we’re going against an immortal, and, in trying to stop him from his future ascension to power, there’s also the risk that we screw up the future of the world in other ways.”

Klemmer teased that we can expect to see some of the reluctant heroes that make up the Legends of Tomorrow team struggle to resist the urge to use time travel to improve their own futures.

“One of the things that I find interesting about this show is that it’s such an odd collection of people with mixed motivations,” Klemmer told Hypable. “Everybody says yes for a different reason. Nobody really cares about Vandal Savage because he’s going to come to power long after they’re dead so when everybody says yes, everybody sort of has their own secret motivation and they’re not purely heroic ones.”

Finally, we caught up with actress Caity Lotz whose appearance as the Black Canary in the Legends of Tomorrow trailer came as a pleasant surprise to fans who had been watching the actress’ story unfold on Arrow.

Arrow fans had presumed Lotz’s character dead and the actress revealed during the show’s press event at Comic-Con that just like the fans, she assumed that was the end of her journey.

“I definitely thought I was done, I had definitely moved on mentally from that space,” said Lotz. “I don’t remember when I found out [I was coming back] but I was not expecting it at all.”

If you’re wondering exactly how Lotz’s character returns, the actress says your guess is as good as hers. According to Lotz, fans will get a lot of answers and a lot of set up to Legends of Tomorrow within the first few episodes of both The Flash and Arrow next season. That being said, Lotz definitely has her theories as to how she returns. Her favorite theory involves the Lazarus Pit.

“To me, [the Lazarus Pit] is very interesting because it changes you and we saw with Thea on Arrow kind of what it did,” said Cassidy. “I like that because it shows consequences– you don’t get anything for free, you have to pay for it and I think with Lazarus Pit, you will really see those ramifications in her personally. As an actor, that’s a fun thing to pay with.”

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until Legends of Tomorrow premieres to get the rest of their burning questions about the fate of certain characters answered.
