DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will take advantage of its time travel motif to introduce infamous bounty hunter Jonah Hex.

Episode 11 of Legends of Tomorrow will be traveling to the Old West, and legendary bounty hunter Jonah Hex will be meeting the Legends when they arrive.

“Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West. But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply MUST include Jonah Hex in it,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim says. “We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”

The role has the potential to recur, though it has not been cast yet.

In the DC Comics, Jonah Hex is an infamous bounty hunter in the 19th century Western frontier. He is known both for his scarred appearance and his deadliness. However, Jonah has a deep moral code, making him more of an anti-hero. Interestingly, in Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #4, Vandal Savage hires Jonah Hex to kill a time-traveling Bruce Wayne. Jonah Hex shoots Bruce and rather than take payment, he keeps a Batarang.

The 2010 film Jonah Hex starred Josh Brolin as the bounty hunter as well as John Malkovich, Megan Fox and Michael Fassbender. The film was heavily panned by critics, however, and was a box office flop.

In other Legends news, the series premiere will get an extended running time of nearly three minutes, airing until 9:02:50 p.m.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
