Johnathon Schaech will play Jonah Hex on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

We previously reported that Legends would be introducing Jonah Hex in episode 11, and now we know who will be playing the gunslinger, per THR. The character is currently a guest star but has the potential to recur.

The character description for Jonah Hex reads:

“A true legends of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future, but is at home in the Wild West. He’s been battling outlaws and gangs for awhile now, and advises the team to be extra careful when they arrive in the small town of Salvation.”

In the DC Comics, Jonah Hex is an infamous bounty hunter in the 19th century Western frontier. He is known both for his scarred appearance and his deadliness. However, Jonah has a deep moral code, making him more of an anti-hero. Interestingly, in Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #4, Vandal Savage hires Jonah Hex to kill a time-traveling Bruce Wayne. Jonah Hex shoots Bruce and rather than take payment, he keeps a Batarang.

“Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West. But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply MUST include Jonah Hex in it,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said previously. “We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”

Schaech’s credits include Star-Crossed, Ray Donovan and The Client List.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
