The synopsis for “Daddy Darhkest” reads:

FOLLOW YOUR HEART — After Sara’s (Caity Lotz) encounter with Mallus, the Legends are paid a visit by John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan), a demonologist detective. The Legends agree to accompany him to a present-day psychiatric hospital and they are surprised to discover who Constantine is trying to help. During the exorcism, Sara, Leo (guest star Wentworth Miller) and Constantine go missing, leaving Ray (Brandon Routh) and Zari (Tala Ashe) to try to take care of Constantine’s client. Meanwhile, Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Nate (Nick Zano) once again come face to face with Kuasa. Dominc Purcell also stars. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Matthew Maala (#310).

We have five teases for the episode:

Constantine’s appearance ties into the season-long arc

Though he doesn’t know it when he tracks down the Waverider, Constantine is jumping into the fray the Legends have been dealing with for a while now.

As the Legends step in to help him with his case, numerous pieces come together to move the season-long arc forward: the possessed girl Constantine is trying to exorcise is a familiar face; Sara’s brief foray into the spirit world in “Beebo, the God of War” has lasting consequences; Zari’s totem receives some notice; and Kuasa’s appearance is the result of the attempted exorcism.

Sara and Constantine are so damn fun

These two characters spend much of the episode bouncing off one another, both literally and figuratively. Constantine is a bit of a jerk and Sara doesn’t take any crap. But there is definite respect between them as well.

Of the dynamic between Constantine and Sara, executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells EW, “Oh, it’s really good. I mean, bear in mind they kind of know each other, I mean they had the small little interaction of, you know, Constantine bringing Sara back to life. So they have a connection. I will say that we’ve got a very randy, bisexual Constantine, and we have a very randy, bisexual Sara, and who knows what could happen if we get the two of them in teams together?”

Let’s just say, everything between them is delightful.

Ray and Zari pair up again

This is not the first time we’ve seen these two together on a mission (Zari bonded with young Ray, remember), and it’s still a fun pairing. There is a playful dynamic between them, whether they’re working together on a project in the lab or taking a young girl to a coffee shop.

Zari also does not appreciate Ray’s attempts at providing clues when they play Head’s Up!

Amaya and Kuasa reach an understanding — maybe?

Amaya and her granddaughter get a chance to air some issues out and each woman seems to come away with something of a new perspective on the other. Amaya remains determined to protect her family and her history while Kuasa’s motives become a bit clearer.

Amaya also faces conflict with Nate over the whole thing, since he only sees Kuasa as a dangerous lackey of Mallus.

Mick just wants to watch some football

But everyone keeps interrupting him. Nobody on the Waverider respects the sanctity of the NFL playoffs. So rude.
