Legends of Tomorrow season 1, episode 8, “Night of the Hawk,” channels Pleasantville as the team travels to the 1950s.

At the end of the previous episode, “Marooned,” Mick had been captured by the team after betraying them to a group of pirates. Leonard, rather than side with his partner, chose to side with the rest of the team and volunteered to “take care” of Mick. He brought his partner out into a deserted clearing, and the two faced off. Mick declared that one of them wouldn’t leave alive. Leonard agreed and fired his cold gun. We didn’t see what happened — and I wrote about why I think Mick is still alive here — but whether Mick survived or not, Leonard has made a permanent change in his character trajectory by ending that partnership.

As for what comes next, the synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow season 1, episode 8, “Night of the Hawk,” reads:

“SARA MEETS SOMEONE SPECIAL; RAY AND KENDRA GROW CLOSER — The team tracks Savage (guest star Casper Crump) to a small town in Oregon during the 1950s. Upon arrival, they discover there have been a recent string of murders and they suspect Savage is involved. Professor Stein (Victor Garber) and Sara (Caity Lotz) go undercover at a psychiatric hospital, where Savage is working as a doctor, to find out his plan. While there, Sara meets a nurse named Lindsay (guest star Ali Liebert) and sparks fly. Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) and Kendra (Ciara Renée) pretend to be a married couple to gain the neighborhood’s trust, but an interracial couple in the ’50s isn’t something that goes unnoticed. Soon, Savage is at their door. Joe Dante directed the episode written by Sarah Nicole Jones & Cortney Norris (#108).”

We also have a clip from the episode that features a nod to Smallville:

The nod to Smallville comes from the fact that Savage is using the name Curtis Knox at the hospital. This was the name of an immortal villain on Smallville, played by Dean Cain, who was originally meant to be Vandal Savage. However, the studio prevented the show from using Savage’s name.

There also seems to be a reference to San Diego Comic-Con when Lindsay mentions Hall H.
