Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for The Legend of Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie.

Last night WB released the first official images from Legend of Tarzan, and this morning we saw the first poster from the live-action remake. Tonight, the studio has released the first trailer for the film starring Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan.

They’ve gone and messed up, capturing Jane and taking her from Tarzan. Jane, played by the wonderful Margot Robbie, can be seen tied up as she’s walked through the jungle as Tarzan swings from vines and limbs to get back the love of his life.

The film has similar tones as Peter Jackson’s King Kong, but will take place in 1880s London and in Tarzan’s jungle.

Director David Yates says he envisions Margot Robbie as a 21st-century take on a character who’s “in no way a passive partner to Tarzan. She’s a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself. In a way, it’s a story of two human beings and how they save each other.”

The Legend Of Tarzan will also star Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga, Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams, and Christoph Waltz as Captain Leon Rom. The movie’s release date is set for July 1, 2016.

The Legend of Tarzan’s first official synopsis was also released: “It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.”
