With only three episodes left, Book 1 of The Legend of Korra is about to come to a close. So, I decided to make another theories post. I’d love to hear your thoughts and theories as well!

Dispelling Some Ideas

I noticed that some people had a few misconceptions. First, Yakone could bloodbend during a full moon; he chose not to in order to avert suspicions of his ability.

Next, Amon’s face was not stolen by Koh. If it was, he would not have eyes. Lastly, when Aang “died” at the end of Book 2, he was in the avatar state. Therefore, the avatar spirit did not create a new avatar, it momentarily ceased to exist until Katara brought Aang and the avatar spirit back to life.

Amon’s Abilities

Amon taking away bending is not necessarily due to chakra blocking. When Aang’s chakras were not flowing properly, he could still bend elements, he just couldn’t enter the avatar state. If what Amon does involves chakras, I believe that he is not blocking them, but using them.

By using the Ajna chakra, Amon makes people believe that they can’t bend, but this is simply an illusion, which will block the Anja chakra. But their Anja chakra may have already been blocked by other illusions before this, so it isn’t the blocking of the chakra that matters, but the creation of the illusion that matters.

When taking away bending, Amon usually touches the back of the neck. The only time Amon did not touch the back of the neck was with Tahno. I believe that Amon touches the back of the neck to stop them from moving. That particular pressure point is called amon, and is the second deadliest pressure point.

When Amon was taking Tahno’s bending, Tahno was already being held down, therefore there was no need stop him. However, the other times Amon has taken away bending, he needed to make sure they were stopped because they had been fighting him.

Bloodbending

I read this theory at the Avatar Wiki site and I think it is worth considering. Pretty much what the blog said was that the reason certain people can bloodbend without the full moon and have other special abilities is because they are able to increase their level of chi. With an increased level of chi, it is possible for a waterbender to be able to bloodbend, or force their will upon another without the aid of the full moon. This could also explain why Amon was able to resist bloodbending. Right when Aang went into the avatar state while being bloodbended by Yakone, it ceased to affect him. In the avatar state, his levels of chi were heightened, which overpowered the affects of bloodbending. Perhaps Amon can do something similar.

I honestly do not subscribe to the idea that Amon is waterbender. I think he was able to resist the effects of bloodbending some other way.

This may seem like an out-there theory, but I’ll present it anyway. Is it possible that Amon is being hosted by a spirit? A spirit that decided the avatar has failed and wanted to create a sort of anti-avatar to rid the world of bending? The only spirits that come to mind are Koh and Wan Shi Tong, but it could also be an unknown spirit. I do not think that Amon is a spirit, but rather that a spirit is hosting him. This could explain why he was able to resist bloodbending. At first, because he still is a human, he was affected by bloodbending (just like Aang). But once the spirit took control (similar to the avatar state) he was able to resist it. I read in an interview with co-creators Mike and Bryan that Amon is just the Book 1 antagonist and there will be a new antagonist for Book 2. Perhaps the spirit could be the Book 2 antagonist.

Aside from what is above, here are some other questions:
– Will Korra enter the avatar state?
– Will Amon succeed in taking away Korra’s bending?
– What do you think Book 2 will be called?
– Will Mako and Korra get together this season or next season?
