Yesterday, Legend of Korra fans everywhere were ecstatic to hear the news that Nickelodeon has ordered 26 additional episodes to the show! However, many were also reasonably confused about the finer details. Korra co-creator, Bryan Konietzko, has cleared the air.

In this recent post on his Tumblr blog, Mr. Konietzko confirms that there are indeed 26 new episodes to come after Book 2 of Korra. These episodes will be split into Book 3 and 4, which will contain 13 episodes each.

He goes on to explain that while they liked the tighter story arc of a 12-episode book, Nickelodeon wanted to change their season lengths to the more standardized 26 episodes. Therefore, they ordered 14 episodes for Book 2 to make a grand total of 26, then ordered 26 more for the next season. Mr. Konietzko states:

“What makes this even more confusing is that the network considers each block of 26 episodes a “season,” which is another reason we try to stick to calling these Korra arcs “books.” So for the network’s purposes, Books 1 & 2 are Season 1, and Books 3 & 4 are Season 2.”

Hoping for more Korra after Book 4? Sorry, Mr. Konietzko says that probably won’t happen.

“Mike and I plan to wrap up the Korra storyline at that point with the close of Book 4. Then I plan to crawl into a dark cave and go into hibernation. And hopefully see my wife more often.”

Hopefully this clears up all the confusion! With only 12 of the total 52 episodes out so far, a lot of things can happen in the remaining arcs. What do you think is in store for the new Team Avatar?
