Legacies has had some super quotable episodes in its debut season, and “Maybe I Should Start From the End” kicked off the series second half in ever quotable style.

There are more than a few Legacies quotes that I’m pretty sure are going to make it into my brain’s everyday pop culture reference library, and one or two of them will probably be from Legacies 1×08. This episode just managed to bring the show back for 2019 in style, and reminded us just how much we were all missing our new favorite show.

This episode featured Hope, Landon, Alaric, and Seylah pretty exclusively, so all our quotes are from them, but we can’t wait to hear from Josie, MG, Kaleb, Penelope, or, the one woman quote factory herself, Lizzie Saltzman. Although Hope definitely gives Lizzie a run for money. Anyway, please enjoy our carefully curated collection of exchanges and one-liners that made this episode the series’ best yet.

Quoting ‘Legacies’ 1×08 ‘Maybe I Should Start From the End’

Hope: “And not a moment too soon. I’m pretty sure you were about to tell me how babies are made.”

We would have jumped out of the car, too, Hope.

Hope: “You’re Professor X, I’m Wolverine.” Alaric: “I was more of a DC kid.” Hope: “Then you’re Batman and I’m Robin. Either way, you call the shots.”

Interesting to learn that Alaric was a DC kid. Can’t you just see him running around in Batman pajamas? Complete with cape!

Hope: “So, how do you want to do this? Fireball? Wind torrent?”

All sorts of options when you’re a powerful tribrid witch.

Hope: “We should come in hot. There could be a Jabberwocky on the other side of that door for all we know.”

That might be less weird than the creatures we actually saw in this episode. Fish man, anyone?

Hope: “Hi. Uh, uh, what, what’re you watching?”

Hope (to herself) “I am totally playing this off. These people don’t suspect a thing.”

Landon: “We can talk about this. If you have a mouth.”

Oh, it has a mouth, Landon. And a full set of VERY sharp serrated teeth to boot.

Landon: “Her name is Hope. And she’d probably kill us both if she heard you calling her my girlfriend.”

Accurate.

Seylah: “You’re stubborn and surrounded by danger. You’re my son, alright.”

This could describe quite a few of the parental bonds in the TVD Universe.

Hope: “A little judgy for an absentee mother.”

You can always count on Hope to bring the truth bombs.

Hope: “We’re not monsters.” Seylah: “You are to me.”

This is one of those quotes that I’m pretty sure will go on to mean more as the series progresses.

Alaric: “This headquarters. Where is it?” Seylah: “Sorry, you just seem morally inclined to do something stupid and there’s too much blood on my hands as it is.”

She’s 100% correct in her assumptions.

Alaric: “Bad liars look away when they lie to their kids. Good liars look them straight in the eye.”

He would know. He can be both, depending on the situation.

Landon: “I hate that you always see me when I’m weak.”

Can we hug him forever?

Hope: “You’re not weak. You’re a survivor. And that makes you one of the strongest people I know.”

She would know. More of her immediate family are dead than alive.

Landon: “Dear Hope, The state of Alabama has like a million Waffle Houses and I can’t stop thinking about what it felt like to kiss you.”

Obvious and sincere. Minus all the knife(/urn)-related lying, these two words sort of describe Landon to a tee.

Hope: “Well, my first kiss was with a 90-year-old vampire who helped murder my mother.” Landon: “That’s terrible.”

Yeah. I thought we had put that one behind us.

Hope: “You’re the one who’s always saying I need to connect more with people.” Alaric: “Not literally. Get out.”

Ba ha ha ha ha ha. I will not forget the look of panicked terror on Alaric’s face in this scene. Ever.

Seylah: “He won’t remember me. Period. And neither will you.”

Seylah, with her not-so-subtle hints about what she’s running off to do.

Landon: “Wait, wait. She got pregnant in Satan’s mud bath?”

Well, maybe? We have a feeling your dad isn’t a tar pit, Landon.

Landon: “See? Danger. Magnet!”

Yup. Is that his technical supernatural identity now?

Alaric: “I am not taking two teenagers to a covert military hiding place for a demon portal.”

Sure you aren’t Alaric. You’re also not going to leave them alone in a motel room to make out, either. Oops.

Hope: “She sacrificed herself for Landon. And then she was erased.”

Again.

Hope: “I think that she’s an international assassin that specializes in killing monsters and that she loves you very much in her own way.” “Oh, let’s be honest, nobody that cool gave birth to me.”

Oh, Landon. If you only remembered.

Hope: “I figured it was better to have it here than to leave it laying around.”

Probably a smart move. Although, you better be ready for a new round of monsters.
