Lea Michele performed her debut single “Cannonball” live for the first time on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show Thursday.

Ellen’s official YouTube channel released the performance in advance of the episode airing later today. Michele sings live and gets a warm applause from the show’s audience.

“Cannonball” is the first song from Michele’s debut album Stronger which drops in March. Despite a big career so far between Spring Awakening and Glee, this is the first time the singer is releasing a solo album.

Michele was also interviewed by Ellen and spoke about moving on from the death of her boyfriend Cory Monteith.

“Grief goes with you every day, whatever you’re doing,” she told Ellen. “When there’s great moments, when there’s hard moments. For me, I’d rather be at work, with people I love, that are going through the same thing. It obviously has its own triggers, but at the end of the day I feel so safe there. Like I said, they’re my family.”

She continued, “I really feel like, I’m still trying to figure out all of this. It’s been only a few months. My mom has experienced a lot of loss in her life and she told me at one point there’s an empowerment that comes with grief and at some point you’ll find it.”

Glee is currently off for the remainder of the year but will return in early 2014.
