The plot thickens! A week after Hypable wrote about Pottermore strangely deeming Lavender Brown dead, the website has removed their blurb about her “presumed” death.

Last week I told you that our beloved lilac had been listed as “presumed dead” on Pottermore following its relaunch. I found this odd for numerous reasons. Chief among them: 1) Her death was never explicitly confirmed in the book, 2) She was the only character listed as “presumed dead” on the website, and 3) J.K. Rowling should be able to answer this question about the canon for Pottermore… Is she in the ground or isn’t she?

I happened to visit Pottermore late last night to see if I had gotten any sweet, sweet justice for Lavender, and I wasn’t disappointed. The profile has removed the “Death” section from her profile and now only lists her Hogwarts House.

As a reminder, here’s what Lavender’s profile looked like last week:

When you visit Lavender Brown’s page now this is what you see:

For comparison’s sake here’s what the profile of a definitely dead person looks like (Spoiler alert! RIP Colin):

Did Pottermore change the profile because of my article last week? I don’t know. For all I know, the Pottermore team was doing a review of their new site over the weekend and happened across Lavender’s profile and someone in the room said “Wait! Jo never said Lavender is dead,” and another guy said, “Oh yeah *deletes*”.

One thing’s for sure: Not even Pottermore “from J.K. Rowling” knows what happened to Lavender Brown. And that’s a problem! Surely Jo could answer this question about the canon quickly.

Every other dead character’s profile lists their death (Examples: Dumbledore’s, Fred’s, Remus Lupin’s). One could argue that the lack of a “Death” section on Lavender’s profile confirms she is alive, just like every other character who lacks a “Death” section. This is a big deal for fans, because a character who we all bet was killed by Fenrir actually may’ve survived the Battle of Hogwarts.

Hypable has an e-mail into Pottermore for comment. In the mean time, I will continue to monitor this situation and hope for a reply from J.K. Rowling.
