It’s just a brief cameo, but if you’ve been following The Hobbit like we have, it might make you squeal with joy.

Peter Jackson’s latest Middle Earth-centered trilogy The Hobbit, which recently enjoyed a thoroughly successful world premiere, focuses on an evil dragon named Smaug.

Smaug (voiced in this incarnation by all-around-good-guy Benedict Cumberbatch) has been somewhat of a wild card when it comes to this trilogy, due in part to the renaming of the second movie in the Jackson’s Hobbit anthology from There and Back Again to The Desolation of Smaug.

This has led to some questions regarding whether or not we would see much of the titular beast in the first installment of the series, but as the below TV spot illustrates, Smaug will not only show up, but he’ll have some genuine wreckage to accomplish in true Jackson style.

The clip from the spot is quick and only offers a few frames of dragon-y glory, but if you want to give the ol’ pause button a good exercise, then go ahead and give it a go.

In case your reflexes weren’t quite quick enough, we have a few screenshots below courtesy of Bleeding Cool.

More news for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’

We’ve been spoiled in the past week or so by an unusual amount of Hobbit-related material.

Just a few days ago we were treated to 27 new high-resolution images, as well as a brand new clip featuring Gandalf gifting the mystical sword Sting to Bilbo since it’s…you know…his size and stuff.
