As The Last of Us Part II locks in its gold master, developer Naughty Dog releases an intense trailer highlighting Ellie’s coming tribulations.

You probably have seen the gruesome scenes in the infamous LoU2 Paris Games Week trailer, and while that game footage is gorier, the latest trailer has even heavier content.

From what we can tell in the trailer, it seems as though we will be playing through a bit of Ellie and Joel’s time immediately after the events of the first game. Seeing their younger models in the updated game engine really reminds you of just how much game development has evolved since 2013.

The latest trailer brings us back to the moment where Ellie and her girlfriend Dina are attacked by an unknown group. Ellie begs and pleads, asking her attackers to… not do whatever it is they’re doing. This whole scene is probably going to be equivalent to Joel’s daughter’s death in the opening of the first title. It can and likely will emotionally stick with you.

The Last of Us Part II‘s combat looks smooth as butter. The game always looks so beautiful that it’s actually hard to tell the difference between a prerendered cutscene and realtime action.

The Naughty Dog staff recently celebrated the production of The Last of Us Part II‘s gold master copy, as the game’s seven-year-long development period finally wrapped up.

It’s surreal to think that in just in a little over a month, we’ll have our hands on the latest blockbuster title to come from the incredibly talented Naughty Dog team. Perhaps more than you usually would, do your best to avoid spoilers, as some of the game leaked last week.

The Last of Us Part II will release on June 19, 2020 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
