Lady Gaga suffered a concussion during a show in New Zealand over the weekend and may have responded to Madonna’s “Born This Way” mashup.

While performing “Judas,” one of Gaga’s backup dancers accidentally struck her in the head with a metal pole he was moving backstage. Watch as Mother Monster staggers, holds her head and goes off stage. She then returned to finish the show, singing 16 more songs.

Gaga’s makeup artist confirmed that the singer did have a concussion in a tweet Sunday.

In a previous show, Gaga, who played three shows in New Zealand, seems to respond to Madonna’s “Express Yourself”/”Born This Way” mashup, though she doesn’t name names.

“It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work,” Gaga said during her performance of “Hair.” “And that doesn’t make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I’m not being a good human being.”

“Things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that’s what makes ‘Born This Way’ so relevant for me,” she added.

What do you think of Gaga’s speech? Was it a thinly veiled response to Madonna?
