Lady Gaga had a special gift for fans this Christmas – the announcement of a new documentary film based on her life and helmed by fashion photographer Terry Richardson.

Fans have been awaiting Mother Monster’s third full-length album, ARTPOP, since she performed new song “Princess Die” while on tour and announced the album’s title in August. They now have more to get excited about.

No more details about the documentary have been released, but Gaga did confirm to a fan on Twitter that the new documentary would not be another HBO special like her 2011 Monster Ball concert special from Madison Square Garden.

Other singers have been opening up on screen in recent years. Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never hit theaters in 2011, Katy Perry released Part of Me in the summer of 2012, and Beyonce will premiere her own documentary special on HBO in February. One Direction will join the concert/documentary film trend when their movie premieres Aug. 30, 2013.

The 26-year-old “Born This Way” singer tweeted her gratitude for her fans’ support soon after announcing her new documentary.

Gaga is set to have a busy year in 2013 with ARTPOP expected sometime next year as more than just an album, but as a multimedia app as well. She will also star in Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to MacheteMachete Kills – due in the summer of 2013.
