Warner Brothers has greenlit the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper-led A Star is Born, and the film will be directed by the latter.

For Lady Gaga it’ll be her first leading role in a Hollywood movie. For Cooper, it’ll be his first time directing.

According to Deadline, A Star is Born follows a “singer [played by Gaga] whose star rises as quickly as her troubled lover/mentor’s [Cooper] star is falling.” It’s based on the 1976 movie of the same name starring Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Watch a trailer for it below:

Cooper first approached Beyoncé for the project, but she turned it down.

“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” said WB brass. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home—Warner Bros.—and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”

Gaga will write and perform new music for A Star is Born.

Meanwhile, Little Monsters are eagerly awaiting the release of a new studio album, which is expected in the next year or so.

The singer has spread her wings outside of music in recent years. For example, she starred in the last season of American Horror Story and is returning for the sixth, which premieres this September on FX.

Do you think Cooper and Gaga can pull off a great movie?

They certainly have star power on their side… and it’ll be interesting to see Gaga carry a film.
