After revving up fans over the last few days, Lady Gaga has finally revealed the album art to her highly-anticipated new album ARTPOP.

Prior to releasing the image, Gaga announced that the album art for ARTPOP was created by Jeff Koons, who Gaga subtly mentions in the lyrics of “Applause.”

In the hours leading up to today’s unveiling, fans could unlock sections of the album art for ARTPOP by tweeting #iHEARTARTPOP. Eventually, Gaga made the following announcement about Jeff Koons:

Please welcome Jeff Koons into our family + shower him with love for the the talents he has shared with us. A pure and genuine collaborator.

I’m nervous&excited to share something that’s such a piece of my heart. Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his.

Today the image was unveiled all over Clear Channel billboards at 1pm ET. Check out the official artwork for ARTPOP below:

The album art features a literal split between art and pop with half of the background image depicting Early Renaissance artist Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.” Koons pays tribute to himself in the album art as well featuring a metal reflective ball – a style best associated with his work.

What do you think about the album art for ARTPOP? Fans were somewhat mixed about Lady Gaga’s last album art for “Born This Way” which featured a half Gaga, half motorcycle hybrid. Is this artwork a little more in the vein of what Gaga fans would expect to see for this album?

ARTPOP will be released as an album and interactive app experience on November 11, 2013. “Aura” will be released later this week as part of the Machete Kills promotional campaign.
