After a long, somewhat mysterious hiatus, it was just announced today that Lady Gaga will be returning to the performing stage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

The news broke today by MTV’s Sway via MTV’s official Instagram. Sway and a group of random people (as far as we can tell) held a picture to announce that Lady Gaga would be performing:

Back in February Lady Gaga was forced to cancel the remainder of her Born This Way Ball tour, which included most of her North American dates, much to the dismay of fans. Gaga cited an injury in her cancellation and just days later was getting surgery on her hip.

Lady Gaga has been largely quiet in the last several months until just recently when she announced the dates of her upcoming single and album release. Though, no name was announced for the single, it will be released on August 19, with the album/app ARTPOP coming on November 11.

Yesterday, however, we may have learned that the title of the first single from ARTPOP is going to be “Applause,” after someone close to Lady Gaga posted a photo of Gaga with the artwork nearby.

It is assumed that Lady Gaga will be performing “Applause” at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lady Gaga has made some of the most iconic moments in recent pop culture history at the MTV Video Music Awards with her performance of “Paparazzi” in 2009, the controversial meat dress in 2010 and performing as her alter ego Joe Calderone in 2011.

What do you think Gaga has up her meat sleeve this year for the MTV Video Music Awards?
