Kristen Wiig could be squaring off against Wonder Woman when the highly anticipated sequel hits the big screen!

Update (March 9): Patty Jenkins has confirmed the news in a tweet!

Original story (February 28): According to Deadline, actress Kristen Wiig is currently in talks with Warner Bros. and DC to star in Wonder Woman 2 as the sequel’s big bad.

If Wiig signs on, we’ll be seeing her play the role of Cheetah.

As fans of the comic books know, there have been a number of versions of the famed villain over the course of Wonder Woman’s history.

In one iteration, Cheetah’s real name is Priscilla Rich, a D.C. debutante who suffers from a split personality.

In another, Cheetah is the alter ego of Barbara Ann Minerva, a British archaeologist who possesses the powers and appearance of a real cheetah, and also has superhuman speed and strength.

Cheetah was even once portrayed as a male when an Argentinian business tycoon named Sebastian Ballesteros sought out the plant god Urzkartaga with the intentions of assuming the powers once possesed by Minerva.

We’ll be curious to find out which version of Cheetah director Patty Jenkins will bring us in Wonder Woman 2.

Though those involved with the project are keeping tight lipped on specifics for now, we do know that the upcoming sequel is set to take place in the 1980s in the midst of the Cold War.

Starring Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman 2 is set to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
