Back in April we reported that Twilight star Kristen Stewart had signed on for the “gritty actioner” Cali, which was scheduled to film in “late Summer.” It now appears that in the post-scandal world Kristen has changed her mind, backing out of the film.

Variety’s Josh Dickey confirmed that news that was first reported by Gossip Cop, who also reports that The Rum Diary star Amber Heard is being sought to replace Stewart. Dickey referred to this report as being “premature.”

The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes is helming the project, and was reportedly seeking to team up Stewart and Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) as the lead couple. Here’s the synopsis for the film, for those of you who missed our inital report on the project:

Michael Diliberti (“30 Minutes or Less”) wrote the script, which follows Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must “return from the dead” to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.

This is the latest instance of Kristen Stewart clearing her near-future schedule following the tabloid-crushing scandal involving Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, but we won’t go over it again here. Are you disappointed to see Kristen leave the role?
