Netflix’s latest original movie, Like Father, has Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer playing estranged father and daughter working to mend their relationship.

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the most special days of your life. Family and friends come together to celebrate you and your soon-to-be spouse’s love and dedication to one another. It’s a day that can bring people together, and sometimes heal old wounds.

However, in Netflix’s new movie Like Father, Kristen Bell plays a young woman whose wedding day isn’t the glowing, mushy celebration of love that she originally intended. Not only does her fiance leave her at the altar, but her estranged father (played by Kelsey Grammer) unexpectedly shows up.

What starts as a simple night of a lot of drinking to forget the day’s horrible events turns a bit bizarre when Kristen Bell’s character wakes up on the cruise meant to be her honeymoon. To make things weirder, she realizes that her travel buddy is none other than her father.

While on the boat, they are forced to confront their relationship, and Kelsey Grammer’s character must work to rebuild the trust he shattered after spending so many years away from the family. The two learn how they are similar, how they are different, and manage to build the foundation of an actual father-daughter relationship.

Netflix recently released the trailer for this film, and it looks like a sweet, heartwarming look at imperfect relationships and people, and making amends. While Bell and Grammer’s character might start the movie as strangers, they get to the heart of what binds us as people and find their way to a new relationship and a newfound appreciation for life.

Netflix has been slowly releasing more and more original films recently, ranging from big blockbuster style movies to smaller, more heartfelt films in the vein of Like Father. With such a heartfelt story paired with the talent of Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer, this one isn’t going to be a movie you’ll want to miss. Like Father will premiere only on Netflix on August 3.
