Game of Thrones made history with their episode on Sunday, May 1 when they revealed Jon Snow’s fate once and for all.

Obvious spoiler warning!

In the final moments of Game of Thrones 6×02 “Home,” Melisandre brought Jon Snow back to life, as many had theorized she would. While the Red priestess walked away before she could see her magic bear its fruit, viewers didn’t miss a second of the heart-pounding scene. (It makes you wonder: What was Melisandre thinking to walk away like that?! Doesn’t she know how on-edge we’ve all been about this?)

Many viewers felt that Jon Snow’s return wasn’t shocking, but it was still so damn good.

The “death” of Jon Snow may go down in TV history as being one of the biggest, longest lies that a show’s cast and crew has ever had to perpetuate. Without a book to rely on for answers, fans had no idea what would happen next, so the questions about Jon’s fate began to fly at Kit Harrington, the Game of Thrones cast, and HBO brass. Over the past year these people had to endure endless questions about the son of Ned Stark, and the fibs were big.

Looking back at their answers is a treat because you can see just how badly they all lied to our grieving faces. Enjoy!

June 14, 2015 – Kit Harington says ‘I’m not coming back next season’

“I had a sit-down with Dan and David, we did the Tony Soprano walk [letting an actor know they’re being whacked]. And they said, ‘Look, you’re gone, it’s done.’ Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have. They sat me down and said, ‘This is how it is.’ If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.”

June 14, 2015 – Showrunner Dan Weiss says ‘dead is dead’

“Dead is dead. We would hope that after seeing the scene and the way it’s shot that the answer to that will be unambiguous in the minds of the people watching it. It should be pretty clear what happens in by the time you’re done seeing that scene. It’s not an, ‘Oh what just happened scene?’”

July 30, 2015 – HBO President Mike Lombardo says ‘dead is dead is dead’

“Dead is dead is dead. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read…yes [he’s dead].”

September 21, 2015 – Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams says ‘he’s dead,’ and claims all other ideas are lies

“The answer is, he’s dead. Sorry, And the interview you’ve all read that thinks that Kit [Harington] spoiled it is fabricated. It was totally false.”

March 7, 2016 – Kit Harrington says ‘I’m definitely not in the new series’

“Look, I’m not in the show any more. I’m definitely not in the new series.”

Rude. Very rude. We’ll never trust them again.
