The multi-media adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicles continues to move forward as the television show gains its showrunner.

In late November, we shared the (amazing) news that Lin-Manuel Miranda will oversee a film, television show, and possible stage play adaptation of the series by Pat Rothfuss.

In a press release on Tuesday, Lionsgate announced that John Rogers has accepted the role of showrunner for the television show which is set to “expand on the world outside of the books.” As previously reported, both Miranda and Rothfuss will be working together to develop new characters and storylines for the show.

Rogers (The Librarians, Leverage), meanwhile, will write the pilot and executive produce the television adaptation.

“With the addition of the incredibly talented John Rogers as showrunner, we have now assembled the perfect creative team to develop a premium quality scripted series to launch our Kingkiller Chronicle franchise,” said Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs. “The unique collaboration between our television and feature film divisions will enable us to dramatically expand the world of this iconic franchise for its millions of passionate fans while introducing the property to a whole new global audience.”

Rogers is currently writing a Magnum P.I. sequel for ABC, which he is producing through Kung Fu Monkey.

And speaking of his production company, it and Lionsgate are the ones who have the option to develop a stage adaptation of the series as well.

This is a huge and unprecedented move for a studio to be developing a project across so many mediums simultaneously, but with Miranda at its head, helped along by the author and several other talented creators, there’s little doubt the project will do well.

We’ll be covering ‘Kingkiller Chronicles’ as it develops, so keep checking back for more news!
