Kingdom Hearts III will be coming to the PlayStation 4, as was announced at today’s E3 2013 Sony press conference.

Fans of the Final Fantasy/Disney hybrid Kingdom Hearts: the wait for Kingdom Hearts III is finally over!

After years of speculation and side games, Kingdom Hearts III was announced for the PS4 system. The game will be the first main-series iteration since Kingdom Hearts II was released in 2006.

The footage shown in the teaser trailer showed Sora wearing his Kingdom Hearst II outfit on Destiny Islands as he picked up a new keyblade. The screen cuts away to Kingdom Hearts III, and then to Sora doing parkour as he runs away from a stream of Heartless in Twilight Town.

The last text seen in the teaser trailer is “in development.”

Kingdom Hearts sets the player in the large, clown-like shoes of Sora, as he searches for his childhood friends Kairi and Riku. The three lived together in harmony on Destiny Islands until the Heartless attacked, who are creatures that seek to gain hearts of their own by stealing living beings’.

The Final Fantasy element of Kingdom Hearts III will likely play out much like it did in the previous titles. As Sora ventures to new Disney worlds, he comes upon one or two Final Fantasy characters either hindering or helping the characters of classic Disney movies.

Final Fantasy characters that have made appearances in Kingdom Hearts games thusfar are Cloud Strife, Zack, Tifa, Yuffie, and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and Tidus, Yuna, Rikku, and Auron from Final Fantasy X.

Some of the Disney movies that were represented in world form in the Kingdom Hearts series so far include Winne the Pooh, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Cinderella.
