The camera issues present in Kingdom Hearts I were bad. The HD remake of this game makes things all the more frustrating.

It’s a shame that our time playing in Neverland for the San Diego Comic-Con 2013 demo wasn’t more pleasant. Walking through the tight corridors of Captain Hook’s ship, the camera stick controls were God-awful.

Fans of the Kingdom Hearts series will remember the original PlayStation 2 game’s left and right trigger button camera configuration. 1.5 uses the camera stick exclusively in place of the already arbitrary shoulder button controls, throwing the entire format of the original game’s system for a loop.

All the camera issues you’ve come to terms with from the original Kingdom Hearts are worsened tenfold in the remake. There are moments where the camera refuses to move from behind the confines of a pole or wall. And in the middle of Heartless battle, those lost blind moments spell out instant death.

The feel of the camera stick is too sensitive in 1.5. This may be a simple issue fixed by user settings, but unfortunately, all this reporter had to base off was this ten minute demo’s pre-settings.

Another explanation for the worsening of camera issues in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is the fact the entire game had to be built back from the ground up after the original game’s programming data was completely lost.

All is not lost in the remake of Kingdom Hearts I. The game looks as smooth and polished as any early-PS3 game would, and while this isn’t exactly what this reporter would call “HD,” it’s nice to see less pixley lines and distant shapes.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX releases for the PlayStation 3 on September 10 in America, the 12th in Australia, and 13th for Europe.

Are you disappointed that ‘Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX’ has made the camera issues of the first game ever worse?
