King Kong is one of those can’t-stop-won’t-stop Hollywood properties, and is of course getting a TV series. But at least there’s a female lead.

Be honest: Do you really need a King Kong TV series? Especially after that pretty rad Kong: Skull Island movie? No, no, you definitely don’t.

Nonetheless, we’re vaguely intrigued by the news that there’ll be a live-action series set in the Skull Island universe.

Deadline reports that the Oscar-nominated Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title (who co-wrote the 1993 short film Down on the Waterfront along with the 2003 Lone Ranger movie) are penning the pilot.

The series is developed by MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television, executively produced by Dannie Festa (Trolls) along with Penner and Title.

Says MarVista CEO Fernando Szew:

“Jonathan and Stacy have taken a world that has enraptured audiences in all its many forms over the years and given it a contemporary, female-focused spin.”

Well, there can never be too many female-led TV series, right?
