HBO did not offer a new episode of Game of Thrones on Sunday night, but Twitter was offering something way more intense: A public fight between Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian.

There are a lot of moving parts here, so let’s review:

February 2016: Kanye West releases a song called ‘Famous’ with the line ‘I think that me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that bitch famous.’

Yes, this is certainly a OMG-worthy line. And as such…

Taylor was allegedly upset and said in a statement she did not approve the line

“Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” her publicist told BuzzFeed. “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.’” (BuzzFeed)

We also can’t forget this moment from the Grammys, where she supposedly calls out Kanye for the line in ‘Famous’

In February and June, Kanye and Kim respectively claimed that Taylor DID know about the line prior to it being released

“She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t,” said Kim. “I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.”

Speaking with GQ in June, Kim described how Kanye and Taylor’s chat went down, detailing what we end up seeing in the video Kim released on Snapchat July 17

“Rick Rubin was there… I don’t know why [Swift] just, you know, flipped all of a sudden… It was funny because [on the call with Kanye,] Taylor said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, ‘The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.” (Daily Beast)

Kim also revealed that there’s video of the whole thing, which led Taylor’s reps to send a cease-and-desist to keep the video locked down

“She further alleged that since West films most of his life they had evidence of the call on video, and when Swift became aware of this her legal team sent them a cease-and-desist over it,” reports The Daily Beast.

Then Taylor’s publicist came back with another round of denials

The publicist claims Taylor did not hear the song, and by extension did not hear the “bitch” line.

Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since. Taylor has never denied that conversation took place. It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that bitch’ in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated. Kim Kardashian’s claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.

The drama fades away… until National Snake Day, which is apparently July 17 ?

Shortly after the above tweet, Kim tells everyone to check out her Snapchat, where she posts this damning video depicting Kanye on the phone with Taylor

The full video:

Notably, Kanye recites the sex line, which Taylor seems to approve of. However, the video does not show the “I made that bitch famous” part.

Below is a transcript of Taylor and Kanye’s conversation. Note that the clips Kim posted on Snahcpat were chopped up, so this transcript is not a natural flow of conversation:

Kanye: For all my south side n****s that know me best, feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.

Taylor: I’m like this close to overexposure.

Kanye: Oh well this one is, uh — I think this is a really cool thing to have
Taylor: I know! I mean it’s like a compliment kind of.

Kanye: What I give a fuck about is just you as a person, and as a friend.
Taylor: That’s sweet.

Kanye: I want things that make you feel good. I don’t wanna do rap that makes people feel bad.

Taylor: Um, ya. I mean, go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice!

Kanye: Yea. I just felt I had a responsibility to you as a friend. I mean, thanks for being so cool about it.

Taylor: Aw, thanks! Yeah I really appreciate it. Like, the heads up is so nice!

Taylor: …things without like even asking or seeing if I’d be OK with it. And I just really appreciate it. I never would’ve expect you to tell me about a line in your song.

Taylor: And then the flowers that you sent me, I Instagrammed a picture of them and it’s the most Instagram likes I’ve ever gotten. It was like 2.7…

Kanye: Relationships are more important than punchlines, you know.

Taylor: Yeah. I mean, I don’t think anybody would listen to that and be like, Oh, that’s a real diss. Like, she must be crying about…

Taylor: You gotta tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way you experienced it. Like you obviously didn’t know who I was before that.

Taylor: It doesn’t matter if I sold 7 million of that album before you did that, which is what happened. You didn’t know who I was before that.

Taylor: … that I can make these things happen and I have the ideas to do it and I create these things and concepts. And, like, I’m always gonna respect you.

Taylor: And I’m really glad you had the respect to call me that and tell me that as a friend, about the song. It’s just a really cool thing to do, and a really good show of friendship. So thank you.

Kanye: Thank you too.

Taylor: And you know, if people ask me about it, I think it would be great for me to be like, Look, he called me and told me about the line before it came out. Like, joke’s on you guys, we’re fine.

Taylor: You guys wanna call this a feud, you wanna call this throwing shade. But right after the song comes out I’m gonna be on a Grammy red carpet and they’re gonna ask me about it and I’m gonna be like, he called me.

Taylor: …awesome that you’re so outspoken and it’s gonna be like, Yea, she does, it made her famous! It’s more provocative to say, Might still have sex.

Taylor: …it’s not. It doesn’t matter to me. there’s not one that hurts my feelings and one that doesn’t.

Hours later, Taylor posts a statement on Instagram in which she asks to be left out of the ‘narrative’

That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim posts it on the Internet.

She also notes that no part of the video finds her explicitly saying she approves of the “bitch” line, though the video from Kanye does prove he presented an important part of it. The video contradicts Taylor’s publicist, who said Taylor thought the song had a “strong misogynistic message.”

Some people are already calling out Taylor’s response due to the screenshot of the Notes app. Did she have this statement ready to go?

All things considered…

Part of the very first statement from Taylor’s reps still holds up, as does Taylor’s response on Instagram Sunday night: Kanye’s video does not prove that she heard the “I made that bitch famous line.” However, the video does seem to contradict Taylor’s apparent disinterest in being included in the song. Also, it’s scandalous as hell how Kim released all of this.

Naturally, Twitter’s been having a field day with the events that’ve unfolded

It’s honestly one of the best things to happen in light of all the serious, horrific news out there right now. We needed something silly to get wrapped up in.

And celebrities are getting wrapped up in it too

Taylor’s had a bad week — Earlier, Taylor’s reps exposed her and Calvin Harris’ secret collaboration, which pissed off the EDM artist

It also led Katy Perry to reiterate her disgust for Taylor. After Calvin Harris blew up at Taylor, Katy tweeted a GIF of Hillary making a bunch of faces and she retweeted herself from May 2015:

So far, this has been Katy’s only response to the drama: A plug for her new song “Rise:”
