The first three minutes of Killjoys season 2 have hit the web, replete with hilarity and trauma.

The Killjoys season 2 premiere, titled “Dutch and the Real Girl,” opens with a daring rescue mission to uncover the secrets of Red 17. But the clip, from Variety, wouldn’t be complete without the Syfy series’ signature snark, and a few potent surprises.

In the clip, D’avin warns Dutch that their infiltration of the secret facility is a trap.

“It’s only a trap if it works,” Dutch replies, but sadly, the trap goes far deeper than D’avin’s consciousness understands. He is still a prisoner of Level 6, and his escape — and subsequent make-out session with Dutch — are figments of his imagination.

Dutch, meanwhile, is clearly haunted by her inability to save D’avin from Khlyen’s machinations.

“After failing to rescue D’avin from Arkyn,” Syfy says of the Killjoys season 2 premiere, “Dutch and Johnny head to Eulogy, an outlaw-only barter town, in the hopes of stealing a mysterious, high tech shield from the infamous Connaver gang.”

The trailer for the rest of Killjoys season 2 promises that the scrappy speculative series will be “more badass” than its freshman year — and it definitely looks like the case. With Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) pushed to their limits to find D’avin (Luke Macfarlane), even the formidable Khlyen (Rob Stewart) may not be able to stand in their way.

The Killjoys season 2 premiere, “Dutch and the Real Girl,” airs July 1 at 9:00 p.m. on Syfy.
