Bond 25 is reportedly enlisting Killing Eve and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge to “liven up” the script at Daniel Craig’s request.

The road bringing Bond 25 to the big screen has been a tumultuous one. With changes to the team both behind and in front of the camera, not to mention the will-he-won’t-he journey Daniel Craig took us all on when it came to playing the famous spy again, some Bond fans began to worry that the international man of mystery might not see the big screen again.

However, it seems things are finally beginning to click into place for Bond 25. Not only are the cast and crew finally being nailed down, but the script is getting polished as well. According to reports, Daniel Craig, James Bond himself, requested that Phoebe Waller-Bridge be brought in to help with that script polishing.

As the Guardian explains, Craig asked for Waller-Bridge by name to help “liven up” the Bond 25 script and to add some of her unique, offbeat style. Waller is best known for her work creating shows like Killing Eve and Fleabag. Craig asked for Waller-Bridge to work on the script to give the spy flick some much-needed humor and wit.

Admittedly, Bond films aren’t known for being laugh-a-minute films, but they have always had a nice mixture of fun and heart-pounding action. Judging by the several scriptwriters that have been brought in prior to bringing in Waller-Bridge, the team is having a hard time getting the tone and story just right.

Waller-Bridge’s appointment isn’t just a cool one for fans of Fleabag and Killing Eve; it’s also pretty historic. Waller-Bridge isn’t the first woman to work on the script for a Bond movie, but she will be the second behind Johanna Harwood. Harwood was original Bond producer Harry Saltzman’s secretary, and he eventually brought her in to help write Dr. No and From Russia With Love.

We’re excited to see more female representation in the Bond writer’s room, and we can’t wait to see what fun and unique spin Phoebe Waller-Bridge is able to put on Bond 25.
