Filming for the long-awaited Kick-Ass sequel begins next month. Ahead of the shoot, Universal has released the movie’s official logo as well as announcing a brand new cast member!

The logo was posted on the film’s official Facebook page, and although it’s certainly simplistic, the image has actually proven to be fairly revealing.

The “In Cinemas 2013” tagline confirms that Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl will be taking on The Mother F**ker next year, with a summer release being the most likely option. However, what’s missing from the banner is just as revealing as what’s included. Soon after the original hit cinema screens the sequel was announced as Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall, but the tongue-in-cheek subtitle seems to have since been dropped. A wise move as far as we’re concerned, as the graphic content will be far from slapstick.

In casting news, it was revealed by Deadline that Scrubs star Donald Faison (pictured right, courtesy of NBC) will join Chloe Moretz, and Aaron Johnson as Dr. Gravity. Fans of the comics will remember the baseball bat-wielding college graduate, who plays a small (but crucial) part in Dave Lizewski’s crime-fighting career. Don’t be surprised if the role is beefed up to better suit Faison’s comedic abilities – one short quip the character makes in Issue #1 of the comics in particular suits the actor’s delivery.

What do you think of the logo? Are you excited to see Donald Faison in the sequel?
