Kevin Smith announced at Power-Con that he’ll be bringing a limited Masters of the Universe series to Netflix.

Netflix has been doing some great work, bringing some beloved anime and animated classics back into our lives, and it doesn’t seem they’ll be stopping any time soon. Kevin Smith has just announced that he is working to bring a Masters of the Universe limited series, called Masters of the Universe: Revelation, to the streamer.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will take place in the same world we were introduced to in the original series from the ’80s. Smith will be serving as showrunner and executive producer on the show, and according to Variety, it will tackle some of the unresolved stories from the original series.

Kevin Smith expressed his excitement in a statement, saying, “I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe. In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Rob David, the vice president of Mattel TV and author of He-Man: the Eternity War, will serve as executive producer. The show will be written by a pretty impressive group: Eric Carrasco of Supergirl, Reign of the Supermen writer Tim Sheridan, Diya Mishra from Magic the Gathering, and Marc Bernardin from Alphas.

David also issued a statement to express his excitement over the new series and Kevin Smith’s leadership role, saying, “Masters of the Universe has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within. Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a Masters superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

We’re incredibly excited to see what adventures are ahead of us in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Bringing a beloved show back after years away is always risky, but if anyone can do it well, Kevin Smith can. There’s no word on a premiere date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as more news breaks.
