Looks like Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is gearing up to join the Star Wars family.

A new report published on Wednesday (September 25) by The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Kevin Feige — widely known for spearheading Disney’s Marvel Studios — is set to take the reins on a brand new Star Wars film.

Word of Feige’s involvement with the Star Wars universe comes as Lucasfilm begins to look ahead to what’ll be coming down the pipeline past this December’s highly anticipated release of Episode IX.

In a statement sent to THR, Walt Disney studios co-chairman and chief creative officer, Alan Horn, confirmed that part of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy’s plans for the future of the franchise includes working with Kevin Feige.

“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox,” Horn told THR. “With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”

Though this is the first we’re hearing of Feige spearheading a Star Wars film, it also sounds as if talks have been going on for quite some time behind the scenes.

Another interesting tidbit pointed out in THR’s report is that a source close to the project claims “Feige has told a major actor that there’s a specific role he would like that person to play if and when he makes the movie.”

Given Kevin Feige’s incredible track record with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s no surprise Lucasfilm (and parent company, Walt Disney Studios) might be interested in seeing if he can bring some of that magic over to the Star Wars franchise — especially given that the standalone films like Solo: A Star Wars Story haven’t performed as well as the studio would have liked.

From a fan perspective, we’re sure there are plenty of moviegoers who’d be incredibly interested to see what a Kevin Feige Star Wars movie might entail.

Either way, we’ll be keeping our ears open for more news and developments on the matter!
