It’s been a rough month for Hollywood superstars. First it was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, then it was Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Now, Kermit and Miss Piggy have announced their separation.

While appearing at the Television Critics Association’s summer session this morning to promote their new television series, The Muppets, the iconic frog and pig shared the bad news.

They posted their joint statement on their respective social media accounts:

Anyone who’s seen The Muppets’ ABC pilot (link below) knows that Kermit and Miss Piggy are on rocky ground when the upcoming television series begins. Will they be able to patch things up during their new series?

… Or are things actually okay between the two? We wouldn’t be surprised if this was a cheap publicity stunt (Nice try, guys!).

Elsewhere during their TCA panel, The Muppets cast and crew revealed that the upcoming mock-umentary series will occasionally feature music. Proving their point, they announced that Imagine Dragons will perform with the colorful gang on an upcoming episode:

Expect lots of cameos too. Miss Piggy will be the host of a late night talk show in The Muppets, and one of her guests will be Reese Witherspoon:

The Muppets premieres September 22 on ABC. If you can’t wait…
