The Shakespeare veteran and director of Thor (ever wonder why those Asgardian scenes seemed just right?) has come out of the woodwork to say that even though he turned down the opportunity to direct Thor 2, he would still love the opportunity to return to comic book movies in the future.

In an interview with The Examiner (via CBM) actor/director/Shakespearean interpreter Kenneth Branagh revealed that he would love the opportunity to direct another comic book film, and he names the specific reasons why comic book movies are so much different than regular features.

On why he loved to direct Thor:

“‘Thor’ was such a sort of passionate, specific choice to direct because I knew it as a kid, and I loved the combination of him and primitive nature of the story — the thousands of years of Norse myth, supported by all those kinds of stories about the inter-relationships of families, beasts and monsters — and then the Marvel spin on it, taking it across worlds and galaxies,” Branagh enthused. “I loved the character and it’s the epic nature all wrapped up in one. So I really got a lot out of my system by directing the film, I can tell you.”

On why he would love to come back to comic book movies:

“I don’t know what it would be, but I would be delighted to go back and do some other kind of comic book movie, on either side of the camera or both. Given the scale of film, and the range of energy, storytelling and narrative devices you can use — and the sort of extreme sorts of characters that those movies can allow — it continues to be something that I like because I like the big screen experience,” Branagh said. “I like big sound and big images. Comic book movies are one venue where that kind of cinema, that kind of image making, can still be done on a heroic scale.”

So what do you think? What future comic book movies would you like to see Branagh star in or direct?
