Saturday Night Live fans may soon be able to catch Kenan Thompson on primetime!

According to Deadline, SNL vet Kenan Thomspon is gearing up to board a brand new single-camera comedy on NBC.

Titled Saving Larry, the new comedy comes from Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels and Superstore executive producer Jackie Clarke. NBC has already given the forthcoming comedy a production commitment, and Clarke would serve as writer on the series.

The new series focuses on a single dad (who would be played by Thompson) who must juggle being both mother and father to his children following the death of his wife. His task won’t be easy. On top of the normal trials and tribulations that come with being a single parent, he’ll also have to figure out how to do it with his father-in-law hovering over him at every turn.

As exciting as it is to hear of the news, it also spells out some bittersweet news for fans who’ve enjoyed Thompson’s brand of comedy at SNL over the past few years.

Last year marked Thompson’s 15th season with the long-standing variety series, officially making the comedian SNL’s longest running cast member.

Though nothing has officially been announced, it’s likely that if Saving Larry goes to series, he may have to step down from his series regular role on Saturday Night Live.

Even so, the news is incredibly exciting — especially, we’re sure, for fans of Thompson who grew up watching him on Nickelodeon via shows like All That and Kenan & Kel.

As much fun as it is watching Thompson play a variety of characters every week on SNL, it would be fun to see him back in a series role. With that in mind, we’ll be keeping our ears peeled for more news surrounding Saving Larry.
