This weekend’s Saturday Night Live premiere will be Kenan Thompson’s last, according to TMZ.

Thompson will reportedly depart the show after season 40 wraps next year. TMZ says he wanted to leave after season 39, but executive producer Lorne Michaels asked him to stay one more season because other cast members like Seth Meyers were already leaving.

The news is significant because the comedian is the longest-serving cast member currently on the show. He joined in 2003. Thompson also holds the record for the longest-serving African American cast member.

TMZ says that Thompson, who’s 36 years old, plans to move to Los Angeles after Saturday Night Live season 40 for a new show.

SNL premieres this Saturday with guest host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande. Darrell Hammond will be the show’s new announcer following the passing of Don Pardo.

Speaking of changes, Michael Che will be replacing Cecily Strong at the Weekend Update anchor desk.
