Ken Jeong is reuniting with Crazy Rich Asians novelist Kevin Kwan.
According to Deadline, actor Ken Jeong has officially joined the cast of new CBS multi-camera comedy, The Emperor of Malibu.
The new comedy, which received a pilot order from the network earlier this month, is being written by Kwan and David Sangalli.
The Emperor of Malibu centers on the son of a Chinese billionaire who announces his engagement to an American woman, much to the chagrin of his family.
Shortly after he breaks the news to his relatives, the billionaire’s outrageous family shows up with the hopes of winning their son back, and with intentions of trying their hand at the American dream.
Jeong will play Gerry in the upcoming pilot, the father of billionaire son Auggie.
When he learns of Auggie’s plan to marry the California girl he’s secretly been dating for two years, Gerry takes it upon himself to bring the whole family to Los Angeles in an effort to convince his son to re-think his engagement.
Jeong, who has previously starred in such titles as Community and The Hangover, also co-starred in the big screen adaptation of Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians.
Coincidentally, comedic actor played a wealthy asian father in the blockbuster hit rom-com, so it sounds as though his upcoming role in The Emperor of Mailbu is a perfect fit for him.
We’ll be looking forward to seeing if CBS decides to give the comedy a full season order for the 2019-2020 television season!
