Keegan-Michael Key is heading to ABC to star in a brand new drama.

According to TV Line, actor Keegan-Michael Key has signed on to star in and executive produce a brand new crime drama series coming down the pipeline at ABC.

The new ABC pilot is based off of author Stephen Mack Jones’ August Snow series of books, the first of which debuted in February 2017. Currently, the series is comprised of three books in total, the third of which is set to hit store shelves later on this year on May 4, 2021.

Check out the official character description for August Snow per the first book’s series synopsis below:

Tough, smart, and struggling to stay afloat, August Snow is the embodiment of Detroit. The son of an African American father and a Mexican mother, August grew up in Detroit’s Mexicantown and joined the Detroit police only to be drummed out of the force by a conspiracy of corrupt cops and politicians.

But August fought back; he took on the city and got himself a $12 million wrongful dismissal settlement that left him low on friends. He has just returned to the house he grew up in after a year away and quickly learns he has many scores to settle.

ABC seems to be pretty serious about putting Keegan-Michael Key on the case. The network has already given the series adaptation a script commitment, which means that we likely won’t have to wait too long before we see the show debut on the smallscreen.

Behind the camera, the network has tapped Godfather of Harlem vet Paul Eckstein to serve as writer. In addition, he’ll also serve as an executive producer alongside Key, Brian Grazer, Samie Kim Falvey, Jeff Gaspin, Tony Sabistina, and Elle Key.
