Katy Perry’s new music video for he hit single “Roar” came swinging onto the internet today and in it, the pop star aims to show the world she’s much more of a fearsome tiger than the meager kitty cat we might all think she is.

If it wasn’t already apparent from her boxing champion performance at this year’s 2013 VMAs, Katy Perry has fully embraced the lyrics she’s currently belting in her new summer hit, “Roar.” But if you thought Katy was done taking inspiration from lyrics like “floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee” and turning them into concepts for her performances, think again.

In the official music video for “Roar,” which premiered on Vevo today, the pop sensation crash lands on an island that wouldn’t look out of place in a Lisa Frank illustration, and earns her place as the queen of the jungle.

Though Katy starts off as a frightened damsel in distress when the video kicks off, the singer’s survival instincts are soon forced into action. Perry soon transforms into the queen of the jungle, swinging on vines, making friends with wild animals, and finally coming to a crescendo toward the end when she has a roar-off with a tiger.

“Roar” is the first single off Katy Perry’s much anticipated forthcoming album, Prism, slated to drop on Oct. 22. Perry’s second single off her fourth studio album will be released later this month on Sept. 15.

In a unique twist, the “Teenage Dream” singer announced a few weeks back that fans would have the opportunity to listen to a pair of short samples for two upcoming Prism tracks, “Dark Horse” and “Walking On Air,” and vote for the song they think Perry should release as her next single.
