We finally have official confirmation – complete with a video announcement – that Katy Perry will perform at the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.

In early October, we brought you the news that Katy Perry will perform at next year’s Super Bowl. But not until yesterday did NFL and NBC actually confirm the reports.

This video (hmm, we’re guessing Pepsi had something to do with it?) reveals Katy Perry as the halftime act, as well as her ambitious plans for the show:

We’re sorry, but whatever she ends up doing, it’s never gonna top edible glitter, unicorns, and Perry herself wrapped in bacon.

The Super Bowl halftime show is universally considered a Big Deal, with the performers hyped up almost as much as the teams playing. Previous headliners include Madonna, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, and The Rolling Stones.

Last year’s act was Bruno Mars, accompanied by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The show drew in a record 111.5 million U.S. viewers.

Earlier this year, the Super Bowl halftime show was surrounded by a bit of controversy, as it was reported that several artists (including Perry) had been offered the halftime gig if they paid for the opportunity.

Perry has denied rumours that she would have to pay to perform, stating, “I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl.”

The XLIX Super Bowl halftime show (and the actual game) will air February 1, 2015.
