On Katy Keene season 1, episode 10, a familiar face from Riverdale makes a trip to visit Josie, which gives her a wake-up call to stop the behavior that felt a little too much like Josie at 15.

Finally! Katy Keene season 1, episode 10 brings another Riverdale character around for a crossover, this time bringing over someone who has consistently played a central role on the main series. While having Sierra McCoy around temporarily made a lot of sense, it wasn’t the crossover we’d really been waiting for.

And while having Kevin around is so pleasant, watching Gloria Grandbilt’s takedown is — surprisingly — not.

‘Katy Keene’ season 1, episode 10 review

Katy Keene season 1, episode 10, is hands down, the best episode of the series so far. Having the added Riverdale presence really made a difference, as we got a little tease of what Kevin’s life is like in five years and Josie wasn’t sitting there, alone, talking about Riverdale. That’s been a little off-putting, really.

(Which, spoiler alert, Kevin’s future life doesn’t seem great. So now, I’m even more convinced that after the Riverdale teens graduate, there will be a time jump to catch up with Katy Keene, making these crossovers even easier to pull off… should Katy Keene get a second season.)

But, in general, the stories of the Katy crew felt a little more focused and as though the writers finally have a trajectory for how these stories are playing out.

It hasn’t felt like that all season long, so it’s a refreshing change, and one that is definitely necessary in future episodes/seasons. There needs to be a real plan implemented and a goal for the characters to achieve, either over a few episodes or the entire season.

Back to the point, this was an incredible episode, and is easily the first that I’d happily rewatch. Like the previous episode, this kind of serious yet lighthearted storytelling is exactly what I want to see from Katy Keene. This cast is too talented for a satirical, nonsensical shell of a TV show, like how the first episodes felt.

Katy and her bosses

The fall of Gloria Grandbilt on Katy Keene season 1, episode 10 was — staying true to her style –grandiose.

Gloria managed to be “cancelled” in the most spectacular way possible, and it’s truly impossible to see how she finds her way out of this mess… if she’s even able to after publicly apologizing and resigning, seemingly admitting truth to the allegations.

It really says a lot about Katy that she was willing to immediately side with Gloria, despite the torment Gloria has put her through over her years at Lacy’s and how she was passed up for a promotion that she was, obviously, very deserving of. Seriously, more than one person had to point out to Katy how abusive Gloria has always been.

I admire Katy and how she sees the best in everyone, but I hope as the season closes, she realizes that maybe this twist of fate is for the best.

She’s already gotten herself a position co-leading Gloria’s former department, which was a job she wanted quite badly just a few months ago. Even though she’ll be working closely with Amanda, it’s a wonderful opportunity, as long as Katy doesn’t drown in the Lacy’s politics.

As for Leo Lacy, I’m more wrapped up in this mystery of what exactly happened in Katherine Keene’s life than I’ve ever been with anything on Riverdale.

It seems, from the letter Katy read, that the situation that caused Leo to break up with Gloria was Katherine getting pregnant with Katy, making her the daughter of Leo Lacy… meaning she’s the “true” heir of Ms. Lacy’s legacy.

But if that’s true, why wasn’t he part of Katy’s life, especially if they stayed in New York City and stood outside of Lacy’s for hours, admiring the clothes and the windows? There’s so much we don’t know, though I’m really hoping we find out more about this before the end of the season. I have to see this mystery through.

Though Katy’s focus was primarily on Gloria, her mind also drifted to her other boss… a very, very handsome boss who Katy had dream sex with. It’s clear there’s some chemistry between Katy and Guy.

(And have you seen him? Of course there is.)

However, I’m very proud of Katy’s mature decision to keep things strictly professional, even though it took a tragic story from Gloria for that to sink in.

Katy’s quite reckless, as we’ve seen thus far, and risking her career for Guy LaMontagne would’ve been her biggest mistake yet. I’m not sure if her decision will stick, but at least temporarily, I’ll applaud Katy for acting like an adult about the situation.

Since she’s only an apprentice, maybe there’s a point in the future where the two can see what’s between them. However, that’s not going to be an option any time soon.

I’m also very suspicious of Guy’s role in the Gloria story getting leaked. He knew Katy slept with Prince Errol, and how he talked about Gloria after the scandal went viral was shady. Maybe I’m reading into it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out he was the one, or he helped the person who leaked the story.

I just really want Katy and K.O. to get back together.

Josie, Kevin, and Pepper

So, can Xandra get any worse? I really don’t think so. Stealing Josie and the Pussycats from Josie, as well as her music, on Katy Keene season 1, episode 10 was such a bitchy, obnoxious thing to do.

Like, we get it, you’re mad that your ex-man-turned-step-brother is in love with Josie, but she’s literally done nothing to hurt you. Very last century of you, Xandra, to fight over a man instead of supporting other women…

Honestly, these last two episodes are the most I’ve enjoyed Josie since Katy Keene started, but her being entangled in this Cabot drama is so ridiculous and unnecessary.

I want to see Josie and the Pussycats work together to make their big dreams come true, and at this point, the Cabots do nothing for Josie except cause an unbelievable amount of problems. She needs to get out of that contract right now and move on with her life. That includes moving on from Alex, too.

Like I said before, Kevin coming to town was so fun, and I definitely hope this happens again next season. But, even better, is the partnership that Kevin and Pepper developed to take down that sleaze that tried to take advantage of Kevin.

This is a duo that I never really expected to work together, like ever, but it was so beautiful and pleasing to see them get justice, especially since, not only did Pepper destroy his career, she also blackmailed him for $70,000. An absolute Queen.

I’m worried for Pepper, though, after Didi turned on her. Now two of her ex-girlfriends are coming after her, and both know of her manipulative ways.

If Pepper is exposed, there is no real coming back from that, is there? She’d be cancelled, arrested, and her dreams would be dead. Plus, her friends have no idea who she really is, which is sad. Pepper can’t really be honest with anyone, and I really hope she opens up to someone soon about what’s happening.

While Katy and Jorge would be upset (Josie less so since they haven’t been friends for too long), they’d eventually come around for their friend. Things would just have to be different between all of them in the future.

‘Katy Keene’ season 1, episode 10 final thoughts

Once again, this was an excellent episode of Katy Keene, and the progression of the stories really makes me excited for the season’s final three episodes.

It might sound mean, but I’m really glad that Bernardo gave Jorge a reality check on Katy Keene season 1, episode 10.

I mean, I’m happy that throughout the season various people have called out Jorge’s selfish and entitled behavior (for the most part, at least). The way he treats other people is absolutely not acceptable, and this Buzz situation is no different.

Having a threesome with Buzz and Bernardo was his idea because of his competing feelings for these two men, and proposing they be in a throuple with Buzz was, once again, because of Jorge’s feelings. Not once has Jorge ever really considered Bernardo’s feelings (or Buzz’s feelings, for that matter) and he pushes people to do whatever he wants.

As great as it was to see the concept polyamory talked about on television without a negative connotation, as it’s becoming more and more common, this story played out exactly as it should have. Except maybe the end where Buzz and Bernardo were meeting up with one another after Bernardo’s fight with Jorge.

I hope to see many more crossovers with Riverdale over the course of the series. The table read of Kevin’s play, “Creekdale,” was a fun way to introduce the Katy crew to a few of Riverdale’s residents (and I also didn’t know I needed Pepper pretending to be Cheryl… iconic). And the writers have now proven they can do it without changing the characters to fit the tone of this show versus the tone of Riverdale.

I’m ready for Katy and Betty to meet now, please!

Katy Keene continues Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW!
