Katniss’ wedding dress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was revealed earlier this week thanks to a beautiful character portrait, and now the film’s costume designer is talking about how the look came to be.

Trish Summerville spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the wedding dress designed by Tex Saverio, who Summerville describes as “amazing.”

“We did several Skype calls with sketches to work together in designing the wedding dress. I had seen a dress he designed with a similar metal bodice, and I wanted to incorporate it into our wedding-dress design,” she said.

While speaking to her, THR noted she “pointed out the bodice, a Swarovski-crystal-clad ‘organza corset under a metal cage.’ The metal pieces rising up are meant to signify fire and flames, while layers of laser-cut feathers at the waist and shoulder tie in the film’s ‘Mockingjay’ concept.”

Elsewhere in the interview we learn that Peeta’s suit in his portrait was designed by Korean designer Juunji, and his unique shoes are by Rick Owens. Meanwhile, Effie’s dress seen in her character portrait was by Alexander McQueen.

Earlier today Lionsgate unveiled President Snow’s portrait which was the last of ten published this week. You can see them all in high-res in our previous story. There, you’ll also find two pieces of great fan art inspired by the portraits.
