We’re diving back in to the family backstories on Glee this season as Ryan Murphy announced today that veteran actress Katey Sagal will play Artie’s mom!
The actress, maybe best known for her role as Peg Bundy on the ’90s mega-hit Married With Children, was announced by Murphy via his Twitter account:
So thrilled to announce my friend Katey Sagal is playing Artie’s mom on Glee! There is nothing this woman can’t do!

In the fandom it had long been suggested and mentioned that Katey Sagal would play the perfect mom for Artie if the show ever got any backstory on his family life. Fans may remember that season 3 explored a lot of the family members of several lead characters but never got to see or get to know Artie’s parents in any capacity.
There’s no word just yet on when we’ll be seeing Katey appear on Glee, but with filming for season 4 coming to an end in the coming weeks it’s possible she could show up to support Artie at Regionals in the season finale.
Katey Sagal can currently be seen on Sons of Anarchy and also appeared on the hit show Lost where she tended to John Locke, her paralyzed wheelchair-bound husband.
