Summit has finally confirmed that Kate Winslet will take on the role of Jeanine Matthews in the book-to-film adaptation of Divergent.

A quick announcement was made today with no further comment. We had known for some time that Winslet had a role, but until today Summit did not confirm which character. Jeanine is an enemy of Tris’ over the course of the series and the leader of the Erudite faction.

UPDATE: Roth has taken to her official blog to talk about the news…

What can I say? When I found out, I was floored. I grew up watching Kate Winslet in movies, whether it was Titanic or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Reader, and she is an incredible actress, and I am sure that she will be extraordinary as Jeanine. I’m excited to see the complexity and depth she’ll bring to the role.

That was me containing my fangirling.
