Kate Winslet and James Cameron are about to have a big screen reunion!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Winslet has officially signed on to star in director James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequel.

Just last month we learned that Cameron had officially started production on the first of his four planned Avatar sequels.

Though the director is currently hard at work working on principle photograph for Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, there’s no telling yet how significant Winslet’s role will be, if she’ll be featured in all four of Cameron’s proposed continuations, or if we’ll just see her pop up in a few of them.

Winslet’s involvement in the the upcoming Avatar sequels marks the first time she and Cameron will reunite for a project set to hit the big screen since 1997’s Titanic.

Winslet isn’t the only big name set to be featured in Cameron’s upcoming sequels. The Wonder Wheel star joins actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver, all of whom starred in the 2009 fantasy drama, and are set to reprise their roles as Jake Sully, Neytiri, and Dr. Grace Agustine, respectively.

Winslet won’t be the only familiar face heading to Pandora. In May, we learned that the film had tapped Fear The Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis for a leading role in the sequel.

Curtis will play one of the Na’vi named Tonowari, who is described as a leader of the Metkayina reef people clan.

Though details surrounding Winslet’s role have yet to be revealed, we do know she’ll be playing a character named Ronal.

In a statement announcing her casting, Cameron revealed Winslet’s character name and also divulged that the pair have been looking to reunite on a new project for a while.

“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, shine our collaboration on titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” said Cameron according to Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

Avatar 2 is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, with Avatar 3, 4, and 5 following in 2021, 2024, and 2025.
