Doctor Who fans are well aware that the characters of Amy and Rory are leaving at some point during the coming season. The only things that are not known is when and how.

In speaking with IGN, Karen Gillan revealed what she most wants for the final days of Amy Pond.

IGN: Are there certain things you’d like to see happen, as far as closure for her?

Gillan: I want to see her go with everything that she wants, because initially, when we met her, she was just seeking what she wants, you know what I mean? And she was kind of in this lost, transitional period, where she didn’t have a stable life. So I just want to see her get what she wants.

GN: We’ve seen some Doctor Who companions in the past leave and then make guest appearances. Would you be up for that if the door was open?

Gillan: I really, really want to have a final exit and then be able to look back on that as a final exit. I don’t know… I just don’t want to take away from that exit by making cameos in the future. I’d quite like it to be final and for people just to remember it fondly.

This “final end” concept may not sit well with some Doctor Who fans who have enjoyed return cameos from Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, and Donna Noble. Going farther back in Whovian lore, Sarah Jane Smith’s return inspired an entire spin-off series. One episode even featured the return of Jo Grant.

On the other hand, having a companion die off (which is about as final of an end as you’ll get) is not a new Doctor Who concept. Before the current reboot, companions such as Adric, were in fact killed off. His death added another level to the drama of the show where his death not only affected the reigning Doctor, but other travelling companions as well.

How do you feel about Amy and/or Rory being killed off and not making a return?
